Keeping Busy

Working on my new technique with Christine
The weather today wasn't the greatest.  Cooler, gray, humid.  Not the best day for swim therapy.  We went anyway, though, because I had three volunteers who were willing to come with.  That meant that FOUR kids could go.  I took Natalie for the first time, and she loved it.  She did great.

We're usually back around 11:30 because I don't want to keep the truck tied up for too long, but we took our time today because we actually used this group's driver's truck.  After we were done with the swimming, they bought the kids orange juice and gave them some snacks.  It was great!  I learned how to give liquid through a straw (a simple suction), and Phonsley got to work on feeding himself.  Multiple therapies in one fell swoop.

When we returned, I got to learn about washer hookups.  Yea, not my strength.  But, the gentleman who went to water therapy, in addition to spending 35 years in the mental health profession, also happens to have a background in engineering (or something like that).  Anyway, he helped us figure out why the washer is not working and what we need to do to fix it.  I am glad somebody knows those types of things because to me it's a foreign language.

As soon as they left, it was time to help feed kids lunch.  Jean-Daniel continues to make good progress, and I've started having Brilner feed himself.  He can do it (he makes a mess); he's just in such a hurry to get the food into his mouth that he tries to shove too much in at one time and then lots of it falls into his lap or onto the floor.  But he's making progress.

I had no sooner finished my late lunch than Matt Woosley and his parents arrived.  Matt is a long-term missionary at a church/school/guesthouse about two blocks away.  He's been bringing some of their visitors over to Notre Maison the last few weeks so that they can meet the kids.  I think Matt's heart has been stolen by Wilcia because every time he comes he looks for her.

I finally had about an hour's break before I needed to head over to Chedner's to get information about some of his kids.  Nina, a representative from the Foundation for Peace who was here last week, wants me to send her the kids' information because her foundation is looking to sponsor kids to go to school.

Whew.  Busy, good day.  As much as I like having slow days during which I can take my time, I also like the busy days because they fly by!

For those of you who asked: I have the motorcycle back, and I have the license plate!  Tomorrow I can take it out on the road.  Whoo Hoo!  Wish me luck.
