I continue to go about my days as normal, trying to take pictures of different things to share.
I have pretty much explored the area around the guesthouse and can pretty confidently find my way around. I still want to explore a bit further out--I'll make that my "project" for the next week! I really am ready to get the licence plate for the motorcycle. Every time I ask about it, it doesn't seem like a good time. Jude's not working. Sony can't go. The answer yesterday was that the police station didn't have any more licence plates! I've been told that it will happen on Monday. Not holding my breath! Once I can drive the motorcycle on the roads, I can expand my exploring!

Corn vendor |
Yesterday on my walk this lady was grilling corn on in the small market. Gertrude had said it was safe to eat the corn, so I bought some. Quite the tasty snack for 5 goudres (about $.13). I had a Tampico (fruit juice) to go with it, and I was set for the last of my walk. The corn is not sweet corn by any means. It's a bit crunchy, but flavorful. No butter. No salt. Just grilled corn. I liked it.
Today I took pictures of the gardens that have been planted by a couple of different groups. One group from Michigan put down most of the compost while a group from Ohio did much of the planting and building of the trellises. We've eaten quite a bit of the chard already, and Gertrude had one of the beets yesterday--it was still very small. As the summer progresses, the kids will be eating lots more fresh veggies. That's a good thing.

Gertrude had hoped to plant tons of vegetables and raise chickens on a plot of land she was going to rent. The land is outside of PAP on the way to the beaches. She heard today that they decided not to rent her the land. For some reason they changed their minds. She's pretty bummed. She had great plans for that land! She's still hoping they will change their minds BACK to the original decision to rent to her. And that is totally possible here in Haiti! The chickens would have been great protein for the kids and a money maker for the guesthouse. In the meantime, the gardens at the orphanage will have to suffice.
