If you read my post from the other day, you know that we were expecting a large group of 25 today and that I was coming up with a list of things for them to do during the week. Well, that group of 25 is really just a group of 4. Guess we don't need the extra tents on the roof after all!
It seems that the last e-mail that the woman leading the group sent should have read that she would be at the airport waiting for a group of 25 to arrive, not that she would be arriving with a group of 25. Now, 25 people did come, but only 4 of them are staying with us; the rest are going on to some place else. This (small) group is from Quebec, Canada, and they are fluent in French and English, but I think their strong language is French. Needless to say, between the French, Creole, and English being used, the message was confused! I even took my camera with me to the airport to take some pictures of this large group loading up onto Leonard's green bus, but you'll just have to imagine it. However, not all was lost. I made good friends with one of the airport workers named Etienne. He is deaf, and the airport staff take good care of him. Etienne works as one of the "red hat" guys who help passengers with luggage whether they want the help or not. Etienne took good care of me by getting me into the airport baggage area instead of me having to wait outside in the sun and heat. So, Susan and Rhonda: when you get to the airport, look for Etienne. He's a tall guy in a white shirt and red hat who is deaf. He's really nice.
I'm not a doctor, but I play one in Haiti. The eye drops for Maxo and Jude are going well. I need to find more time to work with Jude on the visual stimulation, but Maxo seems to be progressing well. We still have a couple of weeks to go with both of them and the drops, but it is getting much easier. Mickey had a good day today. I worry less about his oxygen than I did before, but I still worry. Especially at night. I am always afraid that he will run out of oxygen during the night and no one will know. Then, I have an appointment Wednesday morning to take Maryse, a girl with two club feet, to see the orthopedic specialist. We're hoping to not only get an assessment but also set up another appointment to begin the casting process to straighten her feet. None of those things even crossed my mind as things I would be doing while here.
I ventured out on my own today. I went up to the grocery stores on Delmas 31 all by myself! I took a motorcycle out to Rte. National #1, grabbed a tap tap to Three Hands, took another tap tap to main Delmas, and the took one more up to Delmas 31. I felt very accomplished. I did my shopping (buying more food for Mickey) and then made it back all on my own. Didn't get lost. Didn't pay too much for anything. Who knows where I'll head out to next time!
Hi Mom,
ReplyDeleteThis is Boo again. I have had an exciting week. I came back to G & G’s on Thursday. Grandpa came and got me out at Alyssa’s house. Grandma was with Uncle Dave at Rebekah’s game. They went to some town called Waterford. I am sure that I have never been there. I really was kind of glad to get to the house. Grandpa left my cage out at Alyssa’s. I don’t need it when I am here because Hunter stayed home. She didn’t come with me.
Thursday night went fine but early on Friday morning I caused a ‘small’ problem. Grandpa took me out with him when he fed the birds and guess what – I ran away. That Uncle Dave, you know the one who lives down the street, called grandma and told her that Sarah and Rebekah saw me in their back yard. Well, I heard grandma and grandpa calling me but I just kept on running for a little while. Grandma knows me so well. While grandpa went out looking she just waited at home until I came back. Boy was she MAD! I didn’t even get a treat! As a matter of fact, she didn’t talk with me most of the morning. I don’t think I will do that again.
On Friday night grandpa and grandma when to a basketball game. I have no idea what that is but they were excited to see Sarah play. If it is play, it must be fun. Well you won’t believe what happened when they came home. They tied me up to that rope thing they have in the back yard and I went outside. There was this big animal in the yard. I have never seen an animal that big. I was very brave and barked and barked and the animal ran away. Grandma told me that it was a deer – a female at that. She was a real scary cat. You should have seen her run. She just jumped over snow drifts and right over this tall fence. You know the one that separates their back yard from the Indian Burial Grounds. I’m going to explore that area when the weather is nicer.
Well, on Saturday night that dumb deer came back. I saw her from the big doors in grandpa and grandma’s bedroom. I barked from inside the house and she ran right away. I am such a good watch dog. They sure don’t want that animal eating their bushes. Grandpa says they come to eat because there is soooooooooooooooooo much snow outside that they can’t find food anywhere else. Sure am glad that I get fed twice a day. I think I heard that it is going to snow about 5-7 inches on Monday night and Tuesday. Can’t wait. Hey, grandma said that Aunt Susan is coming with Nellie tomorrow. That should be a lot of fun. I can show her around the house and the back yard.
Guess I had better go for now. Are you calling tonight? Grandma will let me listen to your voice on the phone. Sure do miss you.
Love, Boo
