I woke up looking forward to a pretty normal day: work with the kids in the morning, do a little cleaning in the afternoon, playground right before supper.  Yea, well, I completely forgot that Healing Hands for Haiti was coming in with a team to conduct seminars for some of the nannies and do assessments of the kids.  Needless to say, my plans were scrapped.

But, that turned out to be a good thing.  I was able to have the medical staff look at specific kids and ask questions.  They will then go back to their place, look at the information, and come back tomorrow with therapy ideas.  That will be a huge benefit to me!  And, I received affirmation for what I have been doing up to this point.  I have learned something from those YouTube videos, and I haven't done any damage to the kids!

After lunch I decided to tackle the depot and start organizing it.  Talk about overwhelming!  People are so generous that the place is packed.  Much of the stuff is labeled nicely, but recent donations need to be organized and put into containers with labels.  One of the reasons that I want to do this is so that I can start taking each kid in and get them new clothes.  The kids are rough on their clothes, and even thought the nannies know they need new clothes, they don't have a lot of time to sort through it all and find what is needed.  So, before I leave, all 43 kids will get new clothes. Wish me luck!

  1. Jamie, I am amazed at how much you are accomplishing. I love the idea of new clothes for the kids. Maybe Rhonda and I can help with that, too; we are bringing more shorts and dresses!

I am training Peer Mediators in Princeton tomorrow at my sister's school (I'm spending the night with her & my brother-in-law tonight.) A sleet/snow storm is also predicted for tomorrow. I hope that Nelle and I make it home!

    Have a great day tomorrow!

  2. Hey mom,
It’s Boo. Michaela and Alyssa thought I should write again and let you know how I was doing. Well I’m at Hunter’s house visiting for awhile and you know what – Hunter doesn’t have a fence AND she has a park in her back yard!! I really like taking walks in the park and chasing animals. Sometimes I get Hunter to chase me all the way around the house. She even showed me how to go through the woods to see if Moose can play. He was out one day and we talked and ran around. Then I pooped in his yard, but no one seemed to care. When I first got here, Michaela took me and Hunter for a run, but she didn’t let me play with any of the dogs or the horses either. I tried to talk her into it and even went “exploring” while she let me off the leash, but then I was back on for the rest of the time. I also snapped at her once, but I didn’t bite her or anything. She wanted me in my kennel and I went to Hunter’s instead and she tried to grab me and I didn’t want her to. We made up later and I did go to my kennel, but I don’t think she was very happy with me right then. We’re friends again now. Alyssa lets me sleep in her room and she feeds me. She’s the one who likes to play that whistle thing and I sit next to her and sing along. Now Hunter does it with us too sometimes. I think it gives Aunt Shannon a headache though, cuz she asks Alyssa to stop when we haven’t been singing for very long. I was supposed to go back to grandma’s on Sunday, but Alyssa called grandma and I get to stay until Thurs. Hunter and I are getting along, but she makes a lot of noise – barking at everything and sometimes I give up on playing or cuddling and just go lie down. Hunter did teach me how to chase squirrels in her yard, but she wants a dog door like ours so she doesn’t have to wait for someone to open the door. The squirrels tease us on the porch or in the garden out front and then we get someone to open the door and we chase them up a tree and bark at them. It’s a lot of fun. Then if you go to the bird feeder out back, there’s more to chase away. Aunt Shannon wouldn’t let us try to chase the opossum; she made us watch from the window. She thought maybe I could catch it, which I thought would be cool, but we had to stay inside. Sometimes you can chase squirrels and birds all the way into the woods, but then sometimes you get in trouble for not coming back right away. That no fence thing is kind of confusing, cuz I don’t really remember where I’m supposed to stop. Actually, Aunt Shannon put me in my kennel for 10 whole min for running in the woods one day, but we made up and then Uncle Mike was looking for me and said something about being too close to a camp ground and now I have to wear the black collar when I go outside. He’s a little scary. At first I thought he was always yelling at me, but I think that’s just how he talks and mostly he yells at Hunter anyway, not me. Well when I went on my long walk he kind of yelled, but not much and I probably deserved that one. This is kinda long so I better wrap it up. Almost every day the girls yell to everyone in the house that Aunt Jamie updated the blog and they tell me stories about my mom so I think they call you Aunt Jamie?! (They call Aunt Shannon mom?!) So I listen to your stories and they show me pictures, but they don’t smell like you, so I miss you, but am having fun on my vacation. It sounds like you are having fun with the kids and horses in Haiti. Tell everyone I said hi.
    Love you,
    Boo

  3. Hi Jamie,
It is snowing here really hard. Fun. Good luck sorting. I wish I could be there to help. That would be right up my ally.

  4. Jamie! Love all those kid photos. So darn cute! End of the trimester today. If you were around, I'd suggested we go out for a Diet Coke to celebrate! Take care!
