Video Number Two

Here's another video clip from Tuesday.  It shows the teachers who come in and run a pre-school for the younger kids and the special-needs kids.  I am learning all kinds of cute songs in French that teach days of the week, how to great people, what's in the calender, and, of course, "Frere Jacques."

I didn't blog yesterday because I am sick.  I had been fighting a cold, and yesterday the cold won.  Fever, chills, killer headache.  Gertrude gave me some of the worst-tasting tea ever, but it made me feel better!

I went to the Iron Market today with me friends Rachel and Denise.  I wasn't really looking for anything, but I wanted to see it because I had heard so much about it.  It's a massive market place with vendors selling every type of touristy stuff.  I was able to practice my Creole--which I liked.  I ended up buying three cha chas (rattles) and a sign for my house.  I bought the sign because it made me laugh.  I probably shouldn't laugh at it, but the phrase looses something in the translation.  It makes me picture Jesus with a Native American headdress on with feathers.  Not that he wouldn't wear a headdress or that there's a problem with that.  It's just that it doesn't match with the stereotypical image of Jesus as a fine-boned, blue-eyed, straight-haired Caucasian so often depicted in American churches.

Tomorrow after my doctor's appointment I have my second Creole lesson.  Wish me well!  Every day my skills get a bit better.

  1. I love the video. Now I want to learn the words to that song! Seeing all of the kids gives me a better idea about the orphanage and how the kids learn.

So glad you are feeling better, Jamie. I hope you get some antibiotics at your doctor appointment; it will be interesting to hear what medical services are like there.

P.S. Can't wait to see where you put that sign in your house. ;-)
